March 28, 2020Leeds Hen Party Night Ideas and Activities
January 21, 2021The UK is looking to be a very busy destination for hen parties this year and next with more people choosing to avoid travelling overseas. I feel very lucky to have travelled to the hen party destinations we cover and will share with you over the coming weeks our favourite UK hen party locations and the great range of activities you can do there, there’s no better place to start than my home town of York!
York is a fabulous picturesque town with lots to do making it the ideal hen party destination. Here’s our top ideas and activities for your hen weekend in York:
Spa!
York is home to two of my favourite spas, The Grand Hotel Spa and The Cloisters Spa at The Parsonage. The Grand Spa is located within the city walls (The Grand Hotel and Spa, Station Rise, York, YO1 6GD) and the spa area is hidden away in the basement, it’s so peaceful with Jacuzzi, steam room and swimming pool, you don’t feel like you’re in the city centre. Then there’s the Cloisters Spa at The Parsonage, the complete opposite, the spa has floor to ceiling windows and is very bright and airy, if it’s a nice day you can even take a seat on the sunloungers outside. The relaxation area is a great quiet spot to grab a sandwich or if you’re looking for something more substantial they have their own bar just across from the spa.
Dancing!
Here at Sashay Dance we cover the York area and have a range of 17 groovy dance class themes ranging from Spice Girls, Greatest Showman to Charleston, this is a lot of fun and will definitely make your hen party one to remember. Join us for a fun hen party dance lesson in York. All of our classes are 2 left feet friendly, suitable for all and the hen goes free!
Shopping!
York is a fabulous shopping destination, stroll down the cobbled streets and visit the unique boutique shops, it’s also home to all of your usual high street shops and some great department stores such as Browns and Fenwicks and a massive John Lewis is located at Monks Cross Shopping Centre. If you’re looking for a designer bargain you could visit the York Designer Outlet which is great for a rainy day (all indoor) and it has a lovely food court too!
Drinking!
York is home to so many bars, I always recommend planning your bars in advance or take advice from a local Yorkie as they are quite hidden away, email me and I’ll help – [email protected]
A lovely area for drinks is Little Stonegate, it’s home to Manahatta which has a fantastic array of cocktails, it has the perfect vibe no matter what time of day, whether you’re joining for a spot of lunch and Prosecco, or looking for somewhere to party the night away with cocktails! Directly opposite you have the Botanist which is home to more delicious cocktails with a botanical feel and delicious food, the good thing about York is that you never have to travel that far to the next best bar! Further down the street there’s Bobo Lobos, slurp up some latino cocktails and don’t forget to venture to the back of the bar to have a groove in their funky graffiti dance room. If you’re looking for something more lively then take a trip to Popworld or Kuda Nightclub
Eating!
One of my favourite Italian restaurants in York is Marzano, located on Fossgate which is home to lots of York’s best restaurants. Ambiente Tapas Fossgate is also fantastic for Tapas and Sangria. If you love Indian food Mumbai Lounge is by far the best, it’s a beautiful restaurant with high ceilings and above the restaurant there’s a very stylish lounge area which is perfect for lounging around in before or after the meal with a few drinks. For afternoon teas I would highly recommend The Principal Hotel, it is the most beautiful building and in summer they often have a bar outside too.
Sightseeing!
York is home to the most beautiful sights which include the York Minster, Bar Walls, Castle Museum and Cliffords Tower. Hop on and off the York sightseeing bus to take it all in. York used to be home to the Vikings and you can explore the Jorvik Museum to find out more about this, there’s also a darker more sinister side of York if you take a trip down to the York Dungeons, prepare to be scared!
York is a fabulous destination for hen parties and I hope that this has given you some ideas of what you could do for your hen night in York. Why not visit our site if you’d like to find out more about our Hen Party Dance Classes in York
