Quick answer: no. In the UK, the bride traditionally pays nothing towards her hen do. The rest of the group splits the full cost between them, including the bride’s share, because the whole weekend is a gift to her. The usual exception is a big trip abroad, where the bride often covers her own travel and accommodation, and the group treats her to everything else.

That’s the headline. Now the detail, because if you’re the one organising, you know the money bit is the least fun part of the job, and getting it right early saves every awkward conversation later.

Who Pays for the Hen Do, Exactly?

The modern rule of thumb: everyone attending splits the costs evenly, with the bride’s share divided among the group. The maid of honour usually collects the money (up front, always up front, nobody enjoys chasing the group chat), and keeps a simple running budget so there are no surprises.

Only really these: her own travel and stay on a pricier trip abroad, her outfit (she’ll want to choose it anyway), and anything she specifically upgrades for herself. If the celebration is a UK weekend or a single day, the group covers her completely. She should be able to leave her purse at home and her only job should be having the time of her life.

We had the best time at our ABBA medley dance class as part of our Hen Weekend. Everything was brilliantly organised by Sarah, she even found a venue for us making the whole experience completely stress-free and relaxed from start to finish. Tasha, our dance instructor, was absolutely fantastic — full of energy, fun and encouragement, and she made everyone feel amazing no matter their dancing ability….very limited in most cases! The routines was fun, the music was amazing, and we were all singing and dancing along the whole time. Such a memorable part of the hen weekend and we’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for something different, entertaining and guaranteed to get everyone on their feet and having a great time!
