How much should a garden hen party cost per person?

A day-only hen with one or two activities, brunch and decorations sits comfortably at £60 to £120 per person. For a UK weekend including accommodation, a main outdoor activity, food and an evening out, most groups budget £200 to £400 per person.

Do garden hen party activities work if it rains?

The good ones do. Anything mobile (dance classes, cocktail classes, floral workshops) moves indoors with no drama. Outdoor games can move under a marquee or into the cottage. Just confirm a Plan B with your supplier before you book.

Outdoor Activities for Hen Parties – Your Guide to the Perfect Garden Hen Party

Q: What are the best garden hen party ideas for a relaxed group?

A Sashay dance party in the garden, a picnic-style brunch on the lawn, a country dog walk and a long pub lunch is the dream relaxed garden hen day. Add a hot tub or spa session in the evening if you've booked a country cottage and you've got a hen weekend everyone will love.

Q: What are the best garden hen party games?

The classics are the safest, funniest and most photogenic. Giant Jenga, Mr & Mrs on the lawn, build-the-bride, welly toss, hen do bingo and a partner-written quiz. Two or three games is plenty. Keep them short, sweet and totally optional.

Q: What garden hen party decorations should I get?

Floral garlands, a pastel or sage balloon arch, bunting, a personalised 'Hen Do' or 'Bride' banner, a grazing or brunch table moment, a flower wall photo corner, fairy lights and personalised napkins. The two highest-impact spends are the flower wall photo corner and the balloon arch, both can be hired locally.

Q: Can you do hen party dance classes in the garden?

Yes, and they're some of our favourite hens of the year. A Sashay dance party comes to you anywhere in the UK, including your hen do cottage garden, an Airbnb lawn, a country house terrace or a marquee. We bring everything: the speaker, the music, the choreography, and one of our fun, friendly dance teachers. Just bring a hoodie or layers. You'll warm up quickly, but it can be chilly before and after.

Q: Can we choose the songs for our hen party dance class?

Yes! You can choose any 2 or 3 of the bride's favourite songs (any genre, any era, we'll make it happen) and we'll choreograph a bespoke routine and create your custom song mix. We'll send you the song mix to keep and record the routine on the day, so you can practise afterwards and perform it together at the wedding reception. It's always the moment of the night.

Q: Does the bride pay for the hen party dance class?

Never. The bride dances free at every Sashay Dance hen party. With 18 or more guests, the organiser dances free too.

Q: What outdoor hen do activities work best for an adventurous bride?

Paddleboarding, wild swimming, surf lessons, fell walks and coastal hikes, followed by a private dance party in the garden of the cottage. The Lake District, the Welsh coast and Cornwall are all gold-tier locations for an outdoor adventure hen weekend.

1. A Sashay Dance Party — In the Garden, Anywhere in the UK

Best for: every type of hen, every age in the room, brides who want a moment that feels properly personalised.

A Sashay Dance hen party comes to you anywhere in the UK. Your own back garden, the bride’s parents’ lawn, your hen do cottage, an Airbnb terrace, a country house garden, a marquee, a barn — wherever you’ve landed. Lots of our hens choose to dance outside in the garden when the weather plays nicely, and it really is the prettiest setup of the day. Sunshine, fizz, music, the bride absolutely beaming in the middle of it.

Your Sashay Dance experience is built around your group, your songs and your bride. Choose any 2-3 of the bride’s favourite songs — any genre, any era, we’ll make it happen — and we’ll choreograph a bespoke routine and create your custom song mix. Or if you’d like a bit of inspo, pick one of 25+ Sashay Dance themes — Last Rodeo cowgirl line dancing, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, ABBA, Six The Musical, Mamma Mia, Spice Girls, Disney, Dirty Dancing — and we’ll sort the music for you. Feel free to mix and match.

We bring everything — the speaker, the music, the choreography, and one of our fun, friendly dance teachers to guide you through every step. We’re completely 2-left-feet friendly and suitable for all ages and levels, so the bride’s mum, her sister and her uni mates will all have a brilliant time together. The bride dances free. With 18+ people, the organiser dances free too.

And here’s the bit the brides love most. After your 90-minute class, we’ll send you your custom song mix to keep — and we’ll record the routine on the day, so you can practise afterwards and perform it together at the wedding reception. The brides who do this - every single time, the dancefloor goes wild. It’s always the moment of the night.

Easy, beautiful, personalised, and bride free. The very best garden hen party activity, if we do say so ourselves.

2. A Picnic-Style Brunch on the Lawn

Best for: classy daytime hens, mixed-age groups, brides who love a brunch.

This is the easiest one on the list, and one of the loveliest. Pretty rugs and cushions, an M&S grazing platter, fizz on ice, fresh strawberries, sourdough, avocado, smoked salmon, a Bluetooth speaker. Pair it with a Sashay dance party afterwards and you’ve got the dream daytime double-bill.

3. Afternoon Tea in the Garden

Best for: classy daytime hens, brides who love a proper occasion.

Tiered cake stands, warm scones, finger sandwiches, fizz on ice, a sun-dappled garden. Most country house hotels can lay one on for you, or a private caterer will set it up at your hen do cottage. Pretty, photogenic and easy.

4. Garden Hen Party Games

Best for: DIY hens, gentle group bonding, big crews.

A garden hen do isn’t really a garden hen do without a few games. We’ve got a full breakdown further down, but the headliners to know are Giant Jenga, Mr & Mrs on the lawn, build-the-bride and a hen do quiz from the bride’s other half. Five minutes per game, prosecco prizes, gentle chaos.

5. Floral Crown or Wreath Workshop

Best for: Insta-pleasing daytime hens, creative brides, group keepsakes.

Bring a florist to your garden. Everyone makes their own crown, you wear them through the rest of the day, you put them in the photos, you take them home. So Instagrammable it’s almost criminal, and it doubles as the day’s prettiest decoration moment.

6. Cocktail-Making Class on the Terrace

Best for: stylish daytime hens, smaller groups, evening warm-up.

A masterclass with a private bartender, set up on your terrace with a view. Most providers travel. Bonus points if you book them to keep the drinks coming after the lesson finishes.

7. Outdoor Yoga or Pilates Flow

Best for: wellness-focused brides, mornings before bigger plans.

The wellness brides love this one. A morning flow on a country lawn, sunrise stretching by a lake, or pilates on the deck of your hen weekend cottage. Soft, grounding, and the prettiest possible start to a day that ends with cocktails. Followed by a Sashay dance party in the same garden? A perfect day, sorted.

8. Garden Hot Tub & Spa Day

Best for: relaxed weekend hens, brides who want a slower pace.

Hot tubs under the stars, outdoor saunas, woodland spa retreats. So many UK country house hens come with a garden hot tub as standard now. Book a private slot, pour the fizz, and zero arguments.

9. A Hen Party Country Dog Walk

Best for: dog-mum hens, wholesome morning starts, gentle group bonding.

If half the group has small dogs, this one’s lovely. A morning walk through the countryside with the pups, the bride leading, ending in a long pub lunch. Wholesome, photogenic, and the perfect gentle start to a bigger day.

10. Vineyard Tour & Tasting

Best for: classy hens, mid-spend budgets, lazy afternoons in the sun.

A British vineyard with prosecco-style fizz, a guided tour and a long lunch in the sun. Classy, easy and genuinely interesting. A great mid-spend option that feels properly special. Have a look at Three Choirs Vineyards in Gloucestershire or Denbies Wine Estate in Surrey for two of our favourites.

11. A Festival-Theme Garden Hen Party

Best for: big personality brides, summer hens, big-energy groups.

Glitter station, fairy lights, festival flags, food trucks, and a Sashay festival-theme dance class on the lawn. Grown-up festival energy that doesn’t tip into cheesy. One of the most popular themed setups we get booked for.

12. An Outdoor Adventure Hen Weekend

Best for: adventurous brides, coastal hen weekends, fitter groups.

For brides who want a bit more action, think paddleboarding, wild swimming, surf lessons, fell walks or coastal hikes. The Lake District, the Welsh coast and Cornwall are all gold-tier spots for an outdoor adventure hen weekend. Pair the day’s adventure with a private dance party in the garden of your cottage that evening, and you’ve got a weekend that has it all.

Garden Hen Party Games

The right garden games are short, sweet and totally optional. Two or three is plenty. Enough to break the ice and create a few photos, not so many that the day starts to drag.

The classics, but elevated:

Giant Jenga and Connect Four. Oversized, hilarious, perfect for group photos.
Mr & Mrs in the garden. A classic, but on a picnic rug with fizz and proper sunshine.
Hen Do Bingo, outdoor edition. Spot a sheep, take a group jumping shot, find a stranger to wish her well.
Build the Bride. Toilet paper wedding dress contest with a 5-minute timer.
Welly Toss. Laminate the groom’s face on a target.
The Quiz. 20 questions about the bride, written by her partner. Always emotional. Always a hit.
Garden Hen Do Scavenger Hunt. Hide clues around the garden, prize is fizz, naturally.
Lawn Olympics. Egg-and-spoon, sack race, three-legged. Instantly nostalgic and properly funny.

Pair the games with the right music and a Sashay dance party afterwards, and you’ve got a hen day that flows beautifully from arrival prosecco to first dance moves.

Garden Hen Party Decorations: How to Set the Scene

Good decorations turn a regular back garden into a pinch-me, full-grid hen day. The trick is to layer one or two stylish anchor pieces with smaller pretty touches, and not overdo it.

The pieces every garden hen do should have:

Floral garlands and pampas grass. Drape over a table, an arch, or the back of the chair for the bride.
Pastel or sage balloon arches. Far more grown-up than novelty pink balloons, and brunch-aesthetic perfect.
Gentle, classic, never wrong, especially over a marquee or pergola.
A personalised “Hen Do” or “Bride” banner. Calligraphy-style, neutral colours, looks beautiful in photos.
A grazing or brunch table moment. Wooden boards, fresh florals, fizz in ice buckets, sourdough, fresh fruit.
A dedicated photo corner or selfie station. Flower wall, neon sign, oversized “Mrs [name]” letters, polaroid station.
Fairy lights and lanterns. For when the day rolls into evening.
Personalised napkins and cups. Small touch, big Insta moment.

If you’re keeping the budget tight, the two highest-impact spends are the flower wall photo corner and the balloon arch. Both can be hired locally and assembled in 20 minutes.

Garden Hen Party Ideas Across the UK

Where you base yourselves shapes the whole vibe. Here’s where to point the WhatsApp group.

Garden Hen Do in Wales

Wales is hen weekend royalty. Pembrokeshire cottages with sea-view gardens, Brecon Beacons walks, Gower Peninsula surf lessons, vineyard lunches in the Wye Valley. Cardiff itself is brilliant too. Bay-side brunch, a long sunny afternoon, then a Sashay dance class in the garden of your accommodation to set the night up beautifully.

Visit Wales has lovely guides if you're still narrowing down where to base yourselves.

Garden Hen Party Ideas in the Lake District

Made for an outdoor adventure hen weekend. Paddleboarding on Windermere, a fell walk for the morning crew, a long lunch at a country pub, then a private dance party on the lawn of your hen do cottage. No phone signal, all the views, deeply romantic energy.

Garden Hen Do Ideas in Cardiff & Bristol

City-edge hens at their best. Brunch by the bay, a vineyard or cocktail garden in the afternoon, a dance party in the evening. We can come to you wherever you’re staying. Both cities punch well above their weight.

Garden Hen Party Ideas in Liverpool

Liverpool city centre is unbeatable for big group hen energy, but the countryside on the doorstep (Sefton, the Wirral, Formby) gives you a beautiful outdoor option. A garden dance party in the afternoon, then heels for the night out.

Garden Hen Do in Newquay (or Anywhere Coastal)

Surf lessons, a long beach picnic, sunset cocktails, a Sashay dance party on the deck of your beach house. The Cornish hen do is one of the loveliest weekends you can plan.

Garden Hen Party Ideas in London (and Hen Do Activities Near Covent Garden)

A London garden hen do works beautifully in a private rooftop terrace, a hired private garden in Notting Hill or Hampstead, or a cottage just outside the city. For groups based around Covent Garden, pair an afternoon of cocktails and shopping with a private Sashay dance class in your Airbnb or hen do venue. We cover the whole of London. Add brunch at a nearby spot and you’ve combined the best of city hen do energy with a relaxed garden moment.

Garden Hen Do in Northumberland

Quietly one of our favourite hen weekends. Big country house gardens, peaceful coastline, gorgeous walks, and exactly the kind of cottage that’s begging for a dance party on the lawn.

How to Plan the Perfect Garden Hen Party Without Losing Your Mind

A maid of honour’s quick checklist. Bookmark it.

Lock the date and the budget early. Send a poll, confirm it, move on.
Pick the right garden. A hen do cottage, country house, family garden or Airbnb with proper outdoor space. Look for a level lawn, a hot tub, a marquee or covered patio, and a kitchen big enough for prosecco and chaos.
Plan one daytime headline activity. A dance party, a paddleboarding session, a cocktail class on the terrace. One thing the day pivots around.
Mix active and relaxed. Balance one big activity (dance class, lawn games) with brunch, drinks and chill-out moments. Hen weekends that try to do six things tend to go badly. Three things, done well, is the move.
Decorate smartly. Pick decorations that double as photo props. Flower walls, balloon arches, a pretty grazing table.
Have a Plan B for the weather. Almost every garden hen party activity can come indoors if it rains. A Sashay dance class works just as beautifully in the cottage living room as it does on the lawn.
Confirm everything two weeks out. Suppliers, taxis, food, dietary requirements. Let us take the stress out of organising, so you can focus on celebrating your bride-to-be.

What to Pack for a Garden Hen Do

A nice cardigan or oversized blazer (looks lovely in photos, also actually warm)
Trainers and heels, both
A hoodie or layers for the dance party (you warm up fast, but it’s chilly before and after)
Hairband, dry shampoo, mini deodorant
Portable phone charger
A water bottle (your future self will thank you at 11pm)
Sunglasses, suncream, a wide-brimmed hat for photos
One sash, one veil, one pretty playlist on standby

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had an amazing time with Stef in York learning our Texas Hold 'Em dance routine for my friend's hen party! It was such a great experience for everybody regardless of dancing ability and Stef made it so fun. She was very warm and welcoming, and broke everything down so well. We had such a laugh and can't wait to perform our routine at the wedding! The whole booking process was also really straightforward. Highly recommend.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What a brilliant experience! Really enjoyed this on my best friends hen do! We did the line dancing to songs of our choice and it was excellent - the dance teacher Emily was amazing teaching all 20 of us (not easy work!) and we picked up the routine easily! Fantastic activity for a group of girls and gets the laughs going. The communication was great throughout the booking and organising process, which is what you need when planning a hen :) thank you again!!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. +0We had the best time at our ABBA medley dance class as part of our Hen Weekend. Everything was brilliantly organised by Sarah, she even found a venue for us making the whole experience completely stress-free and relaxed from start to finish. Tasha, our dance instructor, was absolutely fantastic — full of energy, fun and encouragement, and she made everyone feel amazing no matter their dancing ability….very limited in most cases!
The routines was fun, the music was amazing, and we were all singing and dancing along the whole time. Such a memorable part of the hen weekend and we’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for something different, entertaining and guaranteed to get everyone on their feet and having a great time! Our ‘half past 12’ dance pose became the go to move of the weekend! Thankyou Sasha Dance!

Easy to arrange and really accommodating when I had to change the timings a couple of times. Our teacher, Emma, was brilliant and kept us all going and included. Even the guests who were definitely not going to dance joined in! A great afternoon, highly recommended.

We did the abba dance class and everyone had such a fun time - the choreography was positioned just at the right level for a group of amateurs (other than the bride to be!). Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great experience with Sashay Dance for my sister's hen do! She's a dancer and loves anything musical theatre, so Sarah and the team created a bespoke musicals mix featuring songs from shows she's been in. Carol was our teacher, and she was great! Really patient and full of energy. All the hens had the best time and would highly recommend this to any other hen groups!
